Tennis Elbow: What are the Symptoms and Treatments? (Part 1/2)

You don’t necessarily have to rush to a specialist like you would, say, to the best hip surgeon in India for your hip pain or injury. Your tennis elbow isn’t as serious of a problem.

However, that said, it’s also isn’t something you should ignore though.

Taking a reluctant approach may make tennis elbow, also called lateral epicondylitis, worse – requiring surgery in severe cases.

Besides, ignoring the condition and pushing through the pain will only limit your lifestyle choices. For instance, not being able to use your arm or hand without pain will prevent you from partaking in several activities; it may even make simple tasks like picking something up difficult.

So, you should take early symptoms of tennis elbow, even when mild, seriously and see one of the top orthopedic doctors in Kolkata for treatment.

Causes of Tennis Elbow

Despite the name, you don’t necessarily have to be playing tennis to get a tennis elbow.

There are many common causes of this condition, including other sports like weight lifting, squash, and fencing.

There are also a few occupations or hobbies that may result in tennis elbow; it includes carpentry, painting, and knitting.

In general, any activity that involves repetitive motion of your elbow can put a strain on the tendons, causing tears to tissues, resulting in elbow pain.

Symptoms of Tennis Elbow

Pain is the most evident sign of tennis elbow. The pain intensifies every time you pick something up, make a grip, raise your hand, or open the door.

In addition to the pain, you may even feel weakness in your elbow.

Diagnosis of Tennis Elbow

Your doctor will do a physical examination and check your medical history.

To that, they may order an X-ray and/or MRI.

They will also look at common risk factors, which increase the chances of having tennis elbow, including age, occupation, and lifestyle (whether you play any sports or not). For instance, adults between the age of 30 and 50 years are more likely to have tennis elbow; so, looking at your age can help the doctor with diagnosis.
